Finals Prep: Sleep
ALL NIGHTERS DO NOT WORK!
We cannot stress this enough! We know that you are feeling crunched for time even more during finals but sleep is ESSENTIAL to you getting the grades you want. If you find yourself needing a few more hours to study, it is better to go to bed and then wake up early than to keep pushing through. Catching enough ZZZs is more than just feeling rested, it is allowing your brain time to store the information you have been learning and then recall it when necessary. Without sleep, you are basically not hitting the “save” button so when you go back to that “file” during your final, all the information you worked so hard to remember might not be there.

AVOID NAPS.
We know that if you stayed up late or got up early you may be needing an afternoon pick me up in the form of a cozy 2 hour nap, but try to not give in. Get your energy instead from a 10 minute walk or a pick me up snack, and then use that time instead to work on your next final or project. Giving yourself those 2 hours during the day means you free up your evening so you can get into bed earlier. Now if you absolutely need more sleep, then aim for 90 minute nap. That will allow your body to go through all of your sleep cycles you can get the restorative feelings of sleep without completely throwing off your sleep schedule.
STRESS LESS.
Easier said than done, we know, but it is more important now than ever. For starters, START STUDYING NOW! Accomplishing more earlier on will help alleviate that intense overwhelming stress you feel closer to finals. Incorporate stress relieving activities aka doing things you enjoy! Spending time unwinding will help you feel less stress and be more focused when you get back to studying. Taking breaks every couple of hours for 15 to 30 minutes will leave you feeling rejuvenated and refocused. Try our favorite ways to de-stress!
P.S. We are all about taking time to yourself but that also means prioritizing your responsibilities. So take time to unwind, but when Netflix asks you if you are still watching, it is definitely time to get back at it!
If you need help planning out your time over the next few weeks, schedule a time management appointment with Ashley to plan out how to best allocate your time and prepare for finals!
